News15-05-2010 : New videowork: Scene in Car
I have placed a new videowork on the site here. It is a work based on Hollywood storylines and techniques. It is set in an undetermined state between death and life and deals with certain concerns about fakeness and manipulation.
09-03-2010 : New work on Site
It has been a while but now I have placed new work here on the website, a rough version of a new video I made called Ignis Fatuus. It very much shows my current occupation with the boundaries between photography and film, and an obsession with abandoned fairgrounds (Coney Island, New York and Dreamland, Margate in this case).
10-02-2010 : Dead Season Live Art
I have just heard that my video is selected to be shown during the Dead Season Live Art festival that runs from the 13th of February until the 28th of March organized by artist collective Limbo in Margate, Kent. It was part of an open submission programme for postgraduate students. It will be shown on the 6th of March amongst other videos at the Substation Project Space from 7:20 PM. More information here.
07-02-2010 : Opening Premiums exhibition
Well, our Premiums exhibition at the Royal Academy is now officially open to the public. So, if you are in the neighbourhood of Piccadilly, be sure to drop by. The exhibition is free of charge, so do not wait in the giant queues outside for the Van Gogh exhibition. Here is some press on the event: an article in the Evening Standard an article in Camden New Journal some photographs of the exhibition a piece on the official Royal Academy site The exhibition will be open until 6 pm on the Sunday 14th of February.

07-11-2009 : More new work on website
The dates for the Premiums exhibition are known (the interim exhibition of the Royal Academy Schools). It will open on the fifth of November 2010 and end on the 14th and it will be held in the Sackler wing of the Royal Academy of Art.
18-10-2009 : New work on website
See also the new video I made in the video section. It is called "Actors of Suggestion" and there are three more of these (there is not enough space to put all of them on this website). I wanted to make a work about our need to have a personal interaction with actors on screen, to be confided in, to believe.

05-08-2009 : Paper City: Urban Utopias photos
Apparently (I was unable to attend) the official opening of Paper City: Urban Utopias was a great succes. Reviews can be found here and here. Check the photos at Links on this website. And see this wonderful review of my work on the Londonist blog: "The 44 designs have now been collected in a small but inviting show at the Royal Academy. Paper Cities: Urban Utopias shows how the simple brief has spawned ideas that take in a broad range of styles and approaches. There a definite sense of a utopian rather than dystopian attitude, a theme hinted on by Inez de Coo, whose montage of Fifties-inspired icons of the hi-tech age, all glass spires and airships and Jetson-style personal craft, comes with a knowing legend: "At least it was hopeful!"."
24-07-2009 : Paper City: Urban Utopias officially open
The exhibition Paper City: Urban Utopias at the Royal Academy of Art has officially opened. It will still take a week for it to be open to the public. More information can be found here.
10-07-2009 : Paper City Exhibition at Royal Academy of Art
For those of you who are interested; my work (which was previously published in Blueprint Magazine) will be part of the exhibition Paper City: Urban Utopias in the Royal Academy of Art from the 31st of July to the 27th of October. It will be displayed, amongst other works, in the architecture space at Burlington House. Find some information on the Blueprint site.
05-07-2009 : A mention in the Camden New Journal
I just found an interesting mention of my work in the Camden New Journal. Apparently someone spotted it amongst the other works in the Summer Exhibition. They have a very British interpretation of what is represented on the photo (titled Cora, from The Postman Always Rings Twice): Amid the amateur clutter, I spotted Nadia, a blue-eyed blonde nude exposed on a love seat by Ishbel Myerscough, from Colebrooke Row, Islington, and, in the photography, a dead Princess Diana in a car crashed by Inez de Coo, from Raveley Street, Kentish Town. Read it here. And do not forget to look at this little piece on the website of the Regentenkamer about my exhibition there in September.
30-06-2009 : My work in new issue of Blueprint Magazine
Check out my photo-collage on page 34 of the August issue (number 281) of Blueprint magazine! Here is a link to the digital version of Blueprint. About the image: The fifties represent a time when many plans were made for the future. It was so hopeful and optimistic even though the world had just been shaken up by war. I miss the possibility of being idealistic about in anything anymore in this world of skepticism and cynicism. The future of cities could use a bit of this idealism and of these extraordinary visions of the future. This work (on the left) will also be part of an exhibition at the Royal Academy called Paper City: Urban Utopias, from the 31st of July to the 27th of October.

01-06-2009 : Opening Summer Exhibition
The Summer Exhibition has opened for a select audience and there will be private views this week. Starting next week the exhibition will be open to all. As a preview I have added a link (at Links) with pictures of my work in the show. The work is in a room with photographs by other artists such as Gillian Wearing and Gavin Turk.
28-05-2009 : End of the First Year
The end of my first year at the Royal Academy Schools is almost in sight. I have just finished my First Year Reviews and everything went well. I will soon move into a new studio and the work can continue.
13-05-2009 : A Lot of New Work
Two new series have been added to the website: Numb Nightmares and Caution. Respectively a videowork that I recently presented in a crit at the Academy and a series of new photographs that will soon be extended. Numb Nightmares can be found both in the Video and Works section of this website.
13-05-2009 : Work Shown in Summer Exhibition
I have just heard that my photograph will be shown in a prominent place in the New Media section of the Summer Exhibition! The show will be documented on the Culture Show by the BBC, so hopefully my work will also be shown on tv. Otherwise it will be great just to have work in the largest open submission contemporary art exhibition of the world, together with Damien Hirst and Cy Twombly. I have added a link (in Links) about the Summer Exhibition if you want to know more about it.

24-04-2008 : Opening Hours of Final Exam Exhibition
This is a sketch of the installation I plan to make for my final exam. 17-04-2008 : Against The Wall printed, will be sold during Final Exam
I have made an artist book called Against The Wall to finalize my work with movie poster. In the book the posters are shown while they are pasted on walls, as the title suggests. The titel also shows the urgency and the inescapability of what I am trying to say with these works. Five of these books will be sold during the final exam at the KABK.
02-04-2008 : Final Thesis is done and Final Exam approaching
14-03-2008 : The site has been updated I have changed the appearance of the site with the help of a friend. I think it will fit the appearance of my work more. Please let me know if some things not working well.
I have entered my work for the library exhibition. I will print it on canvas for the exhibition itself. It was inspired by one of the prints they have by Kandinsky and it is called: A Deaf Mans Kandinsky. It was made thinking of the fact that Kandinsky was inspired by music and I think it is a way to put a work like his into perspective. It is allowed to make a little fun of the masters to lighten things up a bit!
06-07-2007 : More Contests Well the time has come again to compete in a couple of more contests. There will be a project organized for the 350th anniversary of the Academy in which a couple of students will make work inspired by the most prized possesions of the school library. These works (together with the original ones) will be made into postcards and will be spread across Holland. Among the possessions of the library are books by Durer, Kandinsky and Piranesi. Another contest/activity will be organised in collaboration with the Crossing Border Festival. Students of the academy will be given a story and will each make a work of art inspired by this story or by work of a fellow student on this subject. Confusing, I know, but we will see how it will work out.
06-07-2007 : Makeover I thought it was time to give this site a makeover to make it more into a reflection of what I am doing now. I have recently come to a style and subject of work that will probably keep me occupied for some time, it involves a combination of fifties horrorfilm posters and my experiences with science. As big posters full of colour and silly jokes I believe it gives a good reflection of the time we live in. Even though I use imagery from 50 years ago it is something that people now still feel estethically connected to. I believe my work has long needed a sense of humour and I have used it in the texts, which are of vital imporance to the works. I have also experimented with video works and I will see if I can add them later on.
I am participating in another contest for students of the third year in the academy. This one is for a converence room in the City Hall of The Hague. I can make whatever I want as long as it is some way related to the theme of "Transparent Democracy". This will be a tough one...
I have only been back two days from a long and mind-altering trip and it is already time to start my third year at the academy. The Diligentia project was a close call but I ended up second place because my design (they loved the kabuki design) was not accessible to children. I love that, my work should be PG 13. New work will come soon, no doubt influenced by all the crazy things I witnessed and experienced in India.
Now that my second year at the Academy has come to an end I have placed the last few works I made on this site and take a short break. My latest work consists of three paintings that I made with my conception on time in combination with the very static medium of painting. I also placed ten watercolours in the paintings section that are a selection of many small (about the size of a postcard) sketches I made of movie images. I think that these images of many different movies create a completely new world together.
I have added some new works on the site. My new work mostly concerns the effect cinema has on me and how it serves as an analogy for life or memories of life. The single frames represent the short instances that life consists of and give the viewer the possibility to imagine what happened before and what will happen after this moment. Soon I will dig up some work I still have from before the academy and place it here.
Since I had barely any knowledge of the internet or computers in general, I called in the help of my friend Remigius to assist me in making this website. He has performed an excellent job and I think this site will make a perfect gateway to the enormous online world. Thank you!
As of today my new website is online. I hope my work will interest you and if you have any questions concerning my work, the website or anything else; please sign the guestbook or contact me |

Well, so much has happened over the last couple of months during my first semester at the postgraduate course and my first months in London.
